Bill Douglas: The Resilience Guy

The method

Three legs. One integrated life.

Body, Business, and Being, held together by three through-lines. The bridge between them is the part no other coach teaches.

The frame

Body · Business · Being, held together by three through-lines: Accountability (how you build), Respond, Don't React (how you withstand), and Basic Self-Care (how you sustain). Together, that's what “resilience is a choice” means in practice. The legs feed each other; the method is the same underlying choice applied to three domains.

Body

Health, fitness, nutrition, energy, longevity.

61 · ~9% body fat · 30 yrs thriving with MS

The body is the billboard. Lived results outrank credentials.

I teach the system, not a meal plan. One intake question determines your mode: cutting, maintaining, or building. From there, your nutrition, training, and recovery are dialed to your body, not a generic template. The method has eleven principles that govern every program. You learn why it works, not just what to do, so you never need another coach to tell you what's next.

Business

The operator's craft, and the value architecture of a modern business.

30+ years · six companies · OpticWise · Peak Property Performance

Built, lost, and built again, for real. The operator's receipt.

The operator's craft (building, leading, deciding, resilience under fire) and the value architecture of a modern business: data, AI, category. Two clusters.

Operator resilience first. Zero fear of failure: fear of failure changes behaviors; after you've nearly died twice, losing a company doesn't register the same way. Bet on the model you believe in, with skin in the game: I zeroed out OpticWise revenue to rebuild on recurring clients, and fronted a six-figure personal check to land the first anchor. Write the check. Then you'll watch yourself perform. Recurring revenue plus a long engagement cycle is a business worth loving.

Shut a dead business fast. It's self-respect, not failure. My biggest regret: waiting eighteen months to close a company I knew was dead at eight. Cut to the core, run leaner, earn more: in 2008 revenue fell $12M to $2.5M. I cut everything except the customer, went from two dozen people to five, and netted more than the bigger company had. Revenues are vanity, profit is sanity, cash is king.

Then the value architecture, and the core deliverable most men are missing: you'll learn to operate with AI the way I do. AI is non-negotiable: go AI-centric, but never hand it the decision. AI is your thought partner, not your thought leader. I architect, code, deploy, and strategize with it every day, about two years ahead, and I teach the method. Data is gold: own it, control it, don't give it away. Process before technology: nail the process first, then build the tech around it. People first, always.

Being

Meaning, mindset, gratitude, relationships.

E>T · Julie · the sunrise practice

Life is a gift: lived as a standard, not a slogan.

Meaning, mindset, gratitude, relationships. The leg the successful-but-empty man is missing.

Resilience is a choice, we're allowed to make our own choices, and we're accountable to ourselves. Positive or nothing: for a hundred days after the second near-death, if it wasn't positive, I didn't say it. A literal practice, not a slogan. Gratitude is active, and it bookends the day: a morning meditation on waking, a night meditation before sleep.

Purpose: positively impact others. It's the deepest measure of a worthwhile life, not changing thousands, but encouraging one person, making an introduction, listening. It's factually impossible to feel bad for yourself when you're trying to make somebody else feel good.

Don't wait for a near-death to wake up. Between events, gratitude faded into busyness; the lesson is to choose the perspective without the catastrophe. The Power of Silence: embrace silence, quiet the noise, face the monster you've been outrunning. Julie's line: “you're just not that important.” The world won't stop if you take a week off; the whole “I can't be away” facade is ego-inflated importance.

E>T: experiences over things. U-S-E: the Unique Shared Experience. It doesn't have to be expensive to be unique. Happiness equals reality minus expectations; I can't control reality, I can control my expectations.

The bridge

Energy → performance → meaning.

The legs feed each other. That's the moat. Energy (Body) drives performance (Business) drives meaning (Being). When a man brings me a Business problem, my read starts with “are you sleeping? how's your eating?”, because a business problem is often a body problem wearing a suit. The bridge between the legs (energy to performance to meaning) is the thing no other coach teaches, because no other coach has lived proof in all three. Any leg can be the entry door; the integration is what you stay for.

The through-lines

Three threads run through all three legs.

how you build

Accountability

The forward engine. Accountable to yourself first: the mirror, not the window. A repeated ritual, not a one-time decision. It scales by delegation, not control: the fifth of my Five Questions grants total decision freedom in exchange for owned accountability.

how you withstand

Respond, Don't React

The shock absorber. First half of life, action mode; battle-tested, you take a breath and think. Play it like chess, not a reaction. Don't go to a keyboard or a phone until you understand what's actually happening. Perspective from the edge: near-death recalibrated what a catastrophe even is.

how you sustain

Basic Self-Care

The engine's upkeep: fuel, sleep, and space. Universal: for everyone, not just the fitness-minded. Food is fuel or it's poison. You can't out-train, out-eat, or out-work bad sleep. Disconnect on purpose. The loop runs in a circle (low energy wrecks eating wrecks sleep wrecks judgment), so fix self-care first.
